PROTECTOR TYPE A1 LAMP/GARAGE LAMP

HI RICHARD,
THE A1 IS A GARAGE OR UTILITY LAMP MADE FROM AROUND 1900.
ITS FIRST USE WAS TO HANG BY A CAR RADIATOR OVERNIGHT TO STOP THE COOLANT FREEZING.
IT WAS SOLD AS A UTILITY LAMP AFTER THE DEVELOPMENT OF ANTIFREEZE UNTILO THE 1950'S
REGARDS DAVID MATHERI have a Protector Lamp Type A1. The reference number on the base is 56195. I wonder if you would have any information about it's age, or if it is likely to have been used in a mine, or for other use as in your FAQ pages?

Many thanks for any advise and help with this.

Kind regards R Hutchinson.

Mine lamp exhibtion in spain information needed

I am a Senior Engineer with wide experience in the Design & Construction of Head Frames and Winding Gear Systems in coal mines.

In the present I am writing a book about the Coal Mines in Asturias (North Spain), including these matters and history of mine lamps:

• Head Frames & Winding Gear systems, with data and characteristics.

• Mine Lamps:
Oil wick: Spout – Frosch – Sicilians - Saint Etienne-etc.
Blende
Candle sticks
Carbide
Safety
Electric

About the Mine Lamps, jointly with some Spanish collector, we are preparing a “Mine Lamp Exhibition” for the next summer. For the Mine Lamp, I would appreciate that you send me, information as far as possible, to be included in the Book and exhibited in wall panels, if available, in digital format. For instance:
Photos
Pictures
Brochures
Factory History

Thanks a lot for your attention

Protector type 1A

hi rob, simply unscrew the base anti clockwise.
you can then unscrew and remove the wick holder and fill up with paraffin or lamp oil. light with a naked flame and then put it back together

I have just purchased a miners lamp and would like to know how to safely dismantle it. I presume there must be some way to dismantle either to clean or fill up. Do you have any advice or diagrams to show how to do so safely?
Thanks

Koehler lamp help

I have a PERMISSIBLE FLAME SAFTY LAMP ,APPROVAL NO 209
ISSUED TO THE KOEHLER MFG. CO.MARLBORO MASS.USA
.It was given to me by my father on his passing and it was given
to him about 15 to 20 years ago from the ARMY and NAVY VETS mens club he
belonged to as a gift for his contrabution to the running of the club and being
a past presedent and a long time founding menber of UNIT NO. 283.
I would like to make it operational as it is complete but is in used condition
with scratches /dings and a bend in the top plate where the hook for hanging the lamp is .
I do not know how it comes apart or what type of fuel it uses .There is a wick in it and it
moves up and down and there is a turn type handle on the bottom which unscrews and
has a spring behind it.This is the flint mech.
The base unscrews about 1/4 of an inch then stops like it hits a stop
but can not go any further, I have tried to pull the bottom part away from the upper pc where
it seems to unscrew but can not seperate it at all and I do not want to force it.
Can you help me out please ..
Any info you can supply me with would be greatly appreciated , and maybe you could tell me
its approx value as I plan on giving it to my son in a year or two .
Thank You
